EXETER'S LARGEST TOUR OPERATOR GOES SKIING 30 Oct. 2003
First Choice, the tour operator that offers the most flights and holidays from Exeter International Airport throughout the year, has just announced its first ski flights from the airport.

Air 2000, who will be basing an aircraft at Exeter for the first time this winter, and who recently announced a re-branding to First Choice Airways, will be offering seats on their 180 seat Airbus A320 to Geneva starting on Saturday 20 December 2003. This will allow skiers and snowboard riders to choose holidays from the company's brochure in France and Switzerland until the end of March 2004.

"We are very pleased that First Choice has reacted to the increased popularity of winter sports in the South West," said Sue Crossland, the Airport's Business Development Manager, "Snow lovers now have the opportunity to book a holiday with First Choice who have a wide variety of accommodation at top Alpine resorts."

First Choice will join Crystal Holidays, Inghams and Thomson in offering ski holidays from Exeter and this announcement follows the news that 20% more spaces will be available on larger aircraft departing every Saturday throughout the winter.

With just seven weeks until the start of the season, winter sports enthusiasts will welcome the ease of travel from their local airport, greater choice of holidays and the increased capacity on the flights to the ski slopes from Exeter International Airport. The UK's third largest low cost carrier FlyBE., have announced that it is launching a new low fares base at Exeter International Airport and from 28 March, 2004, daily scheduled services will fly to:

Alicante ..Malaga ..Murcia ..Belfast City ..Edinburgh ..Glasgow

The new services complement the existing scheduled flights to Dublin, Jersey and Guernsey and take the number of destinations offered by the airline from Exeter next spring to nine. All the new routes, with the exception of Murcia, will go on sale immediately at www.flybe.com with domestic fares from £19 one way and £49 one way to the Mediterranean routes. Murcia sales will go live in November.

Coinciding with its first anniversary as FlyBE, the re-launched former British European is looking to boost inbound tourism, highlight the area's better quality of life and encourage more businesses to move to Devon and Cornwall. "We aim to carry 150,000 to 200,000 passengers on these new routes in the first year," FlyBE. Managing Director Jim French said today, declaring there was a strong business case for the development of Exeter International Airport.

"As Exeter's long established local airline, it was appropriate for us to pioneer the development of low cost air travel from the West Country. Exeter has good demographics and a strong catchment area covering the four counties of Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset," he added. The move will create up to 100 more jobs at the airline among cabin crew, ground personnel and administration support personnel, taking the airline's total number of Exeter-based staff to more than 800.

The announcement today was warmly welcomed by Richard Westlake, Chairman of Exeter and Devon Airport Limited who manage and operate the airport for Devon County Council. "FlyBE.'s announcement reflects the requests of both the business sector and the travelling public. We are delighted with the FlyBE announcement and their commitment to the region's major airport." Looking to the future, FlyBE. is strongly backing Exeter International Airport's proposal to build a new passenger terminal on the north side of the airfield.

FlyBE. also pledges to be a friendly neighbour. Its new Bombardier Q400s, which start operating from Exeter next year, are the world's most environmentally friendly aircraft with a dramatically lower noise footprint (5% of the noise footprint of the 737-200) as well as a lower fuel burn to that of a comparable aircraft. Its BAe 146s are also renowned for their efficiency and are popularly known as 'Whisper Jets.'
